Futurama

Futurama is an American animated science fiction sitcom created by Matt Groening for the Fox Broadcasting Company. The series follows the misadventures of Philip J. Fry, a late-20th-century New York City pizza delivery boy who wakes up from a 1,000-year cryogenic freeze to find himself in the retro-futuristic 31st century working at Planet Express, an interplanetary delivery company. Groening conceived the series while working on The Simpsons and brought David X. Cohen onboard to develop storylines and characters for pitching to Fox. The show aired on Fox from March 28, 1999, to August 10, 2003, before production ceased. Futurama also ran in reruns on Cartoon Network's Adult Swim from 2003 to 2007 until the network's contract expired. In 2007, the series was revived as four direct-to-video films, with the final installment released in early 2009. Comedy Central later acquired the rights to air the existing episodes and the films as new half-hour episodes, effectively creating a fifth season.
